McKinney-Vento Services

The federal McKinney-Vento Act ensures educational rights and protections for homeless and unstably housed youth. Do you or your family live in a shelter or transitional housing? In a vehicle, tent or trailer? With friends or family? In a hotel or motel? School-based McKinney-Vento Liaisons can help!

If you or your family live in a shelter or any type of transitional housing, you have a right to:

  • Stay in the school you were attending when you lost housing or enroll in the neighborhood school where you are currently staying at night
  • Enroll immediately, even if lacking necessary documentation
  • Receive free school meals
  • And more!
  • Help you register for and enroll in school
  • Set up school transportation
  • Provide advocacy and outreach services
  • Make referrals to local service providers
  • Help you navigate systems
  • Help students with basic needs
